Diana Font began her career as a furniture maker in the early 1990's when she couldn’t find the art furnishings she dreamed of having: pieces of ageless design, artisan quality and modern functionality.
Ms. Font is a romantic Libra. Beauty is her guiding star. Proportion and symmetry are instinctive to her.
Because she started making pieces for her personal use, from the beginning she built only artisan quality furnishings.
Initially she built pieces inspired on the lifestyle and furnishings of historic sugar and coffee plantations. The pieces from that period collectors have purchased once and again are still offered.
The more recent, organic works emerge from her very personal hands-on process. After agreeing on the objective with the artisans, they go to the materials and begin creating the reality of the piece.
Sometimes this is a linear process and she achieves the “original artist proof”, the first of its kind, in one long haul.
Other times, specially when her strict “user comfort criteria” has to be achieved within the angles, bias and curves of a design like the Zero Chair, serendipity plays a hand in reaching the “original artist proof”.
The original pieces, after making the full size patterns used for duplicating the numbered pieces of the series, are offered for sale.
Ms. Font artisan production system is labor intensive.
The price of the pieces reflect the time, materials and artisan costs spent in their creation.
She believes each of the pieces embody the ideal which launched her furniture making career: ageless design, artisan quality and modern functionality.
