For many cultures the zero stands by itself, representing the God force. Since cyclicity is the essence of life, there can be no ending. Which indicates we never come to the limit of our potentials. And so one of the nspirations that comes with the Zero Chair, is that options are endless.
Place it anywhere you want to make a statement of your taste.
Design Notes:
Inspired by the Mayan zero, one of the very first cultures to use the mathematical concept of "nought", this chair is one of our showpieces. The actual Mayan zero is shaped like an American football with several internal lines. In our first prototype we converted those lines into symbolic indentations at the edge of the chair's curved back.It didn't work.
"How far could we take the ancient design and still legitimately keep the reference to its origin? We agreed the best way to honor the indigenous symbol was building a beautiful, comfortable and collectible interpretation which resonated with the source of its inspiration.
Construction Notes:
Keeping the elliptical curve of the Mayan zero in the chair's back while simultaneously making it comfortable entailed repeated attempts for it required the arm to flow seamlessly into the back rest which, in spite of the curve, would not push the user's back out of alignment. The seamless inter-phase of the arm, legs and skirt was also difficult to achieve and ultimately required its own design: a rounded, turning-in-flight seagull which uninterruptedly joins the three elements (arm, leg & skirt) while providing a sensuous rest for the right hand of the user.
